FUNCTION IN HONOUR OF PROFESSOR RIFAAT EBIED FOUNDATION PROFESSOR OF SEMITIC STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA.
Foundation Professor of Semitic Studies at the University of Sydney, Australia, having regard to his unique, brilliant, distinguished, unprecedented, and meritorious achievements in ‘Literature’, and ‘Languages’.
Venue and particulars of the Function The Function will be held at the precincts of the Parliament House of New South Wales, – The Jubilee Room on 26 July 2018, at 2:00 pm.
Furthermore, Particulars of such function are set out in the ‘Two Flyers’ Overleaf which we annex hereto for your information.
Background
The purpose of the abovementioned Function is to reward and present our sincere gratitude, thankfulness and appreciation to Professor Rifaat Ebied who has excelled throughout the years as a 'Professor', and ‘Teacher of Semitic Languages and who has played an effective role in persevering the ‘Alphabet ‘ with utmost glory and pride.
The Honorary Function is unique, important, and most significant. It praises the tireless and unprecedented work of a High Profile Professor namely Rifaat Ebied,
who is labelled as ‘The King of Alphabet’ and the ‘Man who can speak with ‘Several Tongues’, and able to converse with ‘Several Nations’.
Transmitting of Culture and Heritage Throughout the length and breadth of his life, Professor Rifaat Ebied worked tirelessly to reflect an impeccable image of the Country of Nile - Egypt, England, and Australia.
Furthermore, Professor Rifaat Ebied, had transmitted throughout the years the Egyptian , English and Australian faiths, traditions, culture, values, history, and heritage to the Wider Community, and the Whole World as well.
Professor Rifaat Ebied is a man of nobility, with a keen interest in Literature and Languages. His visions have a significant impact on the Australian/English/ Egyptian/ and various other communities as well. Such visions have created tolerance, solidarity, and a particular combination of meditation within same.
Professor Rifaat Ebied is no doubt a great and precious Asset to Australia, England, Egypt, and the World.

It is observed from the ‘Tenor’ of the attached Curriculum Vitae, the tireless and extensive work performed by Professor Ebied, who has published extensively in the field of Semitic Studies in general, and Arabic, Islamic, Hebrew and Syriac Studies in particular.

The AMCN liaises with the three spheres of the Australian Government, and cooperates with Maronite Organisations and Associations, in Australia and worldwide to achieve the following objectives:
At the Australian level:
• Supporting a free Australian Democratic and Multicultural Society based on Equality, Justice and Harmony.
• Promoting cooperation among Australian Communities on issues of common concern to provide for social coherence and stability.
• Ensuring the rights of the Australian Maronite Community to effective participation in decisions which affect it.
• Opposing all forms of Discrimination, Defamation and vilification on the grounds of ethnic or national origin, race, religion or colour.
• Working towards better public relations within the Australian Maronite Catholic Community and encouraging worthy individuals to take up effective and positive roles in the General Australian Society.
• Undertaking Study and Research in order to identify the needs, changes and development of the Australian Lebanese Community in general and the Maronite Community in particular.
• Helping the needy and disadvantaged members of the Maronite Community and beyond.
• Maintaining the Maronite rich culture, identity and values in current and future generations.
At the Lebanese Level and worldwide:
• Supporting a free Lebanese Democratic system which guarantees the democratic rights of all minorities coexisting in Lebanon.
• Safeguarding the existence of the Maronites and Christians in Lebanon and providing them with any necessary support which secures their survival.
• Supporting and promoting Bkerke’s policies and recommendations.
• Liaising and cooperating with the Maronite League in Lebanon and the Maronite Organisations worldwide in support of the Maronite cause.
• As Christian Charity knows no bounds, the AMCN shall be free to act in the field of charity and shall help fight injustice and oppression everywhere. One of the major objectives is to help Charity organisations and institutions and in particular those which assist sufferers of Cancer and Heart diseases etc.

Catholic bishop ever to be elected to the permanent Committee of the Australian Catholic
Bishops Conference [ACBC];

mission of the Catholic Church in Australia; and
(c) the eastern Catholic churches form an integral part of the ACBC and their representation

Kassem Istanbouli re-opens the Rívoli Cinema
This is the third space recovered for Culture since year 2014 by Istanbouli team. Al Hamra Cinema of Tyre, Stars Cinema of Nabatiyeh and now Rivoli Cinema at Tyre. " We are all very happy to come back to Tyre, as half of the members of the team come from Tyre and we are really happy to bring theatre, cinema and music events to our city.", says Kassem Istanbouli .
By this action Istanbouli remarks that from 1959 to 1988 Rívoli Cinema brought high quality cinema and theatre events to the city of Tyre, and that it will return to bring culture to the city. "A beautiful cinema like Rívoli cannot continue abandoned as it was since 1988, we need it in the city", states Istanbouli. He remembers all the artists that visited Rívoli cinema in the past: Jean Marais, Brigitte Bardot, Rushdi Abaza, Emad Hamdy, Omar Hariri, Nadia ALjoundi, Anwar Albaba, Ibrahim Meraachli and Samira Tawfiq, Sheikh Imam, Remy Bendaly, Wadi Al Safi ,Muzaffar Anawab, Hassan Alaa Eddin, Duraid Lahham, the work of Jacob Chedrawiand, Marcel Khalife, Moein Bseiso and Mahmoud Darwish, Ghassan Kanafani. The history of cinema, of theatre, of music.
Rivoli Cinema kept working during the war and after being bombed in 1982. The first cinema of Tyre opened in 1939, the Roxy, and then in 1942 opened the Empire, in 1959 the Rívoli Cinema and after some years another two cinemas opened: Cinema Dounia, in 1964, and Al Hamra in 1966. Now all of them are closed, but the Rívoli will reopen soon.

Political commentator: Egypt should also celebrate the WW1 anniversary in Sinai.
In a statement this morning, the Australian-Egyptian journalist and political commentator, Ashraf Helmy, congratulated the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi,
the Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces, General Sedki Sobhy , the Minister of Defense, and the Egyptian people of all sects on
the occasion of Sinai Liberation Day. Sinai is currently witnessing a war against terror led by the extreme terrorist organisations (ISIS) which are supported by
some Arab countries. Several hundred have fallen from the army, police and hundreds of civilians.
Helmy called on President Mr. Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to hold a grand centenary celebration on the land of Sinai next November to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the
end of the First World War (WWI), which witnessed the city of Arish, one of the biggest battles, to commemorate the martyrdom of up to 12 million soldiers,
including half a million Egyptians.
President Sisi should take the opportunity this November, to announce, to the world, the end of the war on terror in Egypt and Sinai. The President should then
be free to focus on the eradication of sectarian attacks against Coptic Christians in other parts of Egypt. These attacks are undertaken by Islamist groups and are
supported by other Arab nations. The evils of sectarianism threatens to destroy the nation.
In the upcoming November anniversary, Helmy appealed to the President of the Republic to invite the kings and heads of state of the coalition that participated in WW1 to attend the ceremony,
especially the representative of Queen Elizabeth II, the Governor General of Australia , Mr. Peter Cosgrove and Mr. Malcolm Turnbull, Prime Minister of Australia.
These nations gave birth to its own martyrs in the land of Egypt.
In Australia, several cities have been named after Egyptian districts in memory of the WW1 battles. The Australian delegation should be invited to visit the Presidential palace which was originally a hotel transformed into a hospital by the Australian Medical Corps. The hospital treated the war-wounded from WW1.
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN –ZAGALOOL AND LATE POET YACOUB OBAID “AMIR ZAJAL AUSTRALIA”

Ladies and gentlemen, it is an honour to pay tribute tonight to Zagalool who was a very close friend of my late father Poet, Yacoub Obeid.
Late poet Yacoub was the first person of contact with Zagalool when he arrived in Sydney in 1968.
Late poet Yacoub was from Matrit, Lebanon. And at an early age, started to rise as a National Poet.
He recited his first major poem in 1950 at Lebanon’s Independence day Festival in Hasroun, in which he addressed the cries of the underprivileged.
He left his beloved Lebanon in February 1951, with much anguish, and settled in Sydney 7 weeks later. He continued to recite his poems at every occasion possible.
Through his poems, he established bridges between the Lebanese and their new homeland in Sydney.
In 1954, he presented a poem for her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on her first visit to Sydney, in Parliament House NSW, – indeed, a very proud time for the Lebanese community. Soon after, the Australian doors opened for Lebanese immigrants.
When Zagalool arrived in Sydney in 1968, late poet Yacoub immediately went to meet and greet him, for the first time, with his usual warm embracing welcome.
This was not an unusual practice for late Yacoub, as he was accustomed to greeting new arrivals at the airport, from his beloved homeland, and providing them with accommodation in our home.
He looked after Zagalool and his co-poets every day while they were in Sydney and:
1. Introduced them to the Lebanese community
2. He opened Zagalool’s first Zajal party at the Elizabethan Theatre in Enmore.
3. The theatre overflowed with an enthusiastic audience eager to welcome the Zagalool and to hear his words in their native tongue. Zagalool didn’t disappoint them. It was an night never to be forgotten.
4. Zagalool and late poet Yacoub established an unconditional friendship of love and mutual respect.
a. They shared their love of Lebanon, their poetry, their innermost thoughts and life experiences.
b. They sang many zajal poetry in our home till the early hours of the morning, where many friends and dignitaries gathered.
c. It was a ritual that Zagalool would come to our home for supper after every zajal party.
5. In 1968, before returning to Lebanon, Zagalool and [Shafik Gairez Al Dean], the Australian Ambassador to Lebanon awarded Late Poet Yacoub - the title of “Amir Zajal Australia”. Zagalool was resolute in his choice of a poet for this prestigious title.
6. They were true soul mates as noted in Zagalool’s poem to my late father at his resting place- and I quote “ “
Zagalool, we love you, thank you for your valuable friendship, it was an honour and privilege to have known you. We will cherish the precious memories we shared in our home and in Lebanon, for as long as we live. May you RIP.

Tears rolled endlessly on Rakita's cheecks

Her soul was empty with no life
Her heart was broken, pierced and nothing could ever mend it.
Oh Rakita, you were a victim.
