Bouquet of Flowers

By Fouad Neeman El-Khoury

Sydney shed tears of grief
But would not succumb to it.
Sydney is resisting with bouquets of flowers,
Roses and prayers,
Filling its heart;
Christmas presents arrived early.

Sydney … the joyful princess,
My cherished city,
Who has stolen your charm?
Who has betrayed your generosity?
And has torn the veil of your innocence,
In one instance?

The lily is a fence,
The scented flowers cried in protest,
And we are all one bouquet of flowers,
Blended with colours,
And our statement is
The liberty of man,
And Sydney standing firm forever.
