Addressing a packed business dinner, Mr. Joe Hockey, Shadow Treasurer, outlined the Opposition’s Plan for Australia, should they be elected later this year.
Mr. Hockey was speaking at the monthly dinner of the Australian Arab Business Network in Bankstown on Wednesday 10 April 2013. He identified four key planks of the Coalition policy for a better Australia which are: “live within your means, get rid of the unnecessary taxes, grow the economy and creating a more trusting relationship with Asia”.
Mr Hockey outlined number of measures and said that the Coalition would reintroduce the Australian Building and Construction Commission with all its powers and policies including work for the dole. He said there would also be moves to reduce Government red tape to make life easier for businesses large and small.
In introducing Mr. Hockey, AABN President, Mr. Hassan Moussa, said that Mr. Hockey “is known for his compassion on social issues and for his drive for a better Australia, and we trust, if elected, he would be an active advocate within the parameters of Government for a socially and economically inclusive Australia”.
A vote of thanks for the honoured guest was expressed by the Secretary of the Arab Diplomatic Corp, the Ambassador of Palestine, Dr Izzat Abdel Hadi, who spoke about the need for increased bilateral trade between Australia and the Arab world and the role that the Network can play in facilitating such a trade.
Official’s guests included the Ambassadors of Morocco, Palestine, Libya and the Members for the Hughes - Craig Kelly, MLC Shaoquett Moselmane, and The Mayor of Liverpool Mr Ned Mannoun.
