Silk Road Family Festival
Dear All
The Australian National Museum is having an exhibition “Travelling the Silk Road: Ancient Pathway to the Modern World developed by the American Museum of Natural History, New York, opening at the National Museum of Australia at the end of March 2012.
On Sunday 15 April 2012, a family festival (Free of charge) will take place from 10:30 am -2:30 pm. The Program will entail the following activities:
1. Fables from the Silk Road puppet
2. Sand Art Animation
3. Lebanese Dabke by the Cedars of Lebanon Folkloric Group / from Sydney
4. Bellydancing
5. Oud Kanun and Tabla Musicians
6. Art and Craft, with Arabian pattern print making
7. Tour of the Exhibition by Sameh Abu Sleiman- Free of Charge
8. Chinese tea ceremony and tasting
9. Silk spinning
10. Arabic Calligraphy – by Colonel Ahmed Al Marri – UAE Military Attache Office
11. Camel rides
12. Camel caravan chalk art mural
13. Glass bead making.
Welcomed by life-size camels in full caravan regalia, rooms draped in brightly coloured silk fabrics, lanterns casting intricate light patterns on the floors, and the heady fragrances of exotic oils, you’ll be immediately immersed in the sights, sounds and smells of the world’s oldest international highway: the Silk Road.
You are welcomed to attend along with family members especially for children to be introduced to some aspects of the Arabic culture.
